Faith and trust.
Wow, am I working on this… daily.
Faith that I’m being carried, that I don’t have to try so hard, that it is already happening.
Trust the flow. BUT, in order to trust the flow, we need to feel the flow, we need to get out of the way.
I try to get out of the way by getting out of my head. Giving the control tower a rest. Breathing, for starters, and then turning my attention to the reality of *this* breath, remembering it is the most important thing in my life.
It really only takes a few moments of pause…
I love seeing how effective and immediate it is in my clients, when they bring up a topic that is so overwhelming for their emotions and nervous system, they begin to speak more quickly, they feel their chest tightening up and their heart racing… and I (rudely but sweetly) interrupt them, right there, and tell them to STOP! Take a deep breath… (I do it with them – I also stop!)… it’s magic. Each time. It’s amazing how putting a pause in the narrative, in the emotional stimulation, brings us into a completely different state. From that state the story can be retold, with less nervousness, more mental clarity.
We really can do this, we can take control of the overwhelm, we can s l o w d o w n… then life becomes bite size.
